Research into the prostate and its effects is a major concern of many scientists.

Here we provide summaries and links to peer-reviewed publications.

Peer reviewing is a system where researchers submit their findings, often in the form of a paper, to a journal or learned body for critical review before final publication. The peer review process uses experts in the field to examine any research with regard to rigour of methodology, interpretation of results and rational conclusions. Often repeatability of the method and results is used to validate the researchers’ submission. Only after such review will the paper be accepted for publication and then forms part of the databank of information available to all other researchers.

There are rarely any eureka moments in research, rather a steady increase in knowledge, so collaboration and sharing are vital to advance the science.

We do not reference speculation, or hyperbole associated with some journalism or social media commentators, rather a studied view of research, summarised in an easy to read format.

Prostate Cancer

Current : Add-aspirin trial. This trial is investigating the use of low-dose aspirin to control metastatic cancer post surgery. This is a promising trial that may stimulate the immune system to recognise and eliminate rogue cancer cells released during radical prostatectomy. A possible mechanism for how this works is described here.

2022 : International Journal of Molecular Sciences – Dose Rate Effects on the Selective Radiosensitization of Prostate Cells by GRPR-Targeted Gold Nanoparticles. A study looking at the use of Gold Nanoparticles to enhance the effect of radiotherapy by sensitising cancerous cells such that radiation selectively destroys cancer cells. This allows potentially lower doses of radiation to be used, thus preserving adjacent tissue.
